One of Rachmaninoff's most important and weighty piano works is finally available in the careful Urtext edition, which is due to the work and its editorial problems. Dissatisfied with the length and the dense piano movement of his Piano Sonata in B minor, Rachmaninoff made nearly 20 years of composition and publication numerous cuts and "slimmers" before, however, meet with pianists to this day criticism. So usually the first version is played - or even a mixture of both versions, as it was about Vladimir Horowitz (with the composer's consent) allowed.
