Whether you're onstage or in the studio, being able to distinguish your playing in among the rest of the music is key. But the mix that you need in order to play your best is likely to be different from that preferred by the other members of your group. For instance, everybody generally wants to hear the drums, but the bass player may want extra kick drum while the guitarist may prefer to have the crack of the snare be most prominent. Working with the FOH engineer to dial in these personal mix preferences can be a very time-consuming process. Thankfully, there is another way. By implementing a system of personal mixers, all of your players can dial in exactly the mix they want to hear. This is not only much more efficient than building mixes by hand; it also results in a significantly more satisfying mix for each musician, which ultimately leads to better performances.
